We all want to save tons of money when we shop for groceries, but how do we go about doing that?
One of the huge areas we save money in grocery shopping is through marked down items! These are absolutely critical.
Yes, mark downs.
Once upon a time, I would NEVER buy marked down meat, ever, for any circumstance. Now it is the 80% of what we eat - I almost never buy meat full price.
I have always been a scratch and dent girl and don't mind cans, furniture, appliances or most other things with a flaw.

Remember how we talked about one key strategy to getting great deals while shopping for groceries, is a having an open, pliable mind.

Here is an example of how that worked out on New Years Eve. While grabbing a few items for our traditional Appetizer Fest, a lovely array of hors d'oerves including Jalapeno Poppers, Brie with Honey Caramelized Walnuts and Twice Baked Potatoes, I ran across an extreme deal.
Packages of ground chicken for $1.25 each. Not organic. But ground chicken, perfect to make a massive amount of taco meat for the freezer. Tons of them, all marked down from holidays and snow.

Shopping for food has gone from drudgery to sheer adventure!
Each time I head into the grocery store, I pray before I go in, "Lord, what would you have me buy today." That simple prayer has transformed my life, food budget and ability to buy the quality of food I want more than any single thing.
I still head in with a crisp list in hand, items needed and generally on sale all grouped in neat writing, separated into the area and store that I will find them in.
I head out with a full stomach. Absolutely NO shopping hungry - we all know that rule. Violating it can cost some serious cash!

Part of getting great deals while shopping for groceries is a having an open, pliable mind. Yet it almost goes contrary to how "bargain shoppers shop" these days.
My style of grocery shopping has changed over the years.
Once upon a time, it was cash at the commissary, on a frugal military wife's budget, shopping for 2. Later, that morphed into civilian life, and realizing how much groceries COST in the "real world."
Necessity forced me to become the Coupon Queen, buying $200 worth of groceries for $20-$40, back in the 90's, before websites, FB posts and Twitter taught you how to nab killer deals at your targeted markets!
