One of the worst things to die with is POTENTIAL.

One of the worst things to die with is POTENTIAL.

Die with failure, not potential!

John Maxwell, Maximum Impact CD -as I redeem my time and my brain ironing!

What a blessing to hear him say this, as I contemplate our winding journey to leave California, and build a new life in Tennessee! We took an enormous chance, following what we thought was the Lord’s will for us and from this side of the tapestry it looks a little wild. We have not played it safe - and we will die with failure - ahhh, but we will never sit and rock on the front porch and wonder what “might have been” had we just listened to what we thought was that still, small whisper. What might happen if we sell the business, our home and move cross country. Indeed, we followed His voice. Yes, we might have lost it all according to the world, but we have been very busy living out our “might have beens,” as the continuing journey and obedience of our lives unfold.

The Choice of Attention…

Filed under :Attitude, Quote of the Day

Choice of attention - to pay attention to this and ignore that - is to the inner life what choice of action is to the outer. In both cases, a man is responsible for his choice and must accept the consequences, whatever they may be.

US Slipping in Life Expectancy Rankings - The LUXURY of choosing a bad lifestyle…

From an article about US health expectancy rates slipping, found at http://apnews.myway.com/article/20070812/D8QVEIRO0.html
“The U.S. has the resources that allow people to get fat and lazy,” said Paul Terry, an assistant professor of epidemiology at Emory University in Atlanta. “We have the luxury of choosing a bad lifestyle as opposed to having one imposed on us by hard times.

Wow - the LUXURY of choosing a bad lifestyle….this is one of the rallying heartbeats of the Prudent Wife. Live with an eye toward the future, choose life, that you might live!

Redeeming the Time

Filed under :Attitude, The Prudent Wife

Yesterday was an extraordinarily productive day.

Dave took his first PAID vacation day in about a dozen years! What a foreign concept - to go on vacation and be paid, so he could go up early and help the men prepare for their annual camping retreat with our church. I made him some fresh, organic salsa (recipe on the site - a video is to come), a big bottle of UNsweet tea (we are Californians in the land of Sweet Tea) and he was off. This man has worked so incredibly hard these last few months, between the BK at his company, and doing everything he can to help it survive, working late night after night, to coming home for more work on this site, for hours and hours each week and weekends. No one deserves to go sit on top of one of the Lord’s most beautiful mountains, than my beloved!

Yet inside, I was in a bit of a panic. The Prudent Wife website is slated for launch on August 15, a mere 5 days away and my technical adviser just went camping with the guys. I am overwhelmed at how much NAVIGATIONAL work, editing, etc must be done. Not to mention we have 50-70 videos not on it yet, and dozens of recipes and yikes….the clock is ticking. I have so many partial articles on the site, things I have written that are PART of what I want to say, which need further writing and editing. About 100 of them. Dozens of articles on every subject are in my head to write, so many things to say. And we are set to launch in 5 days. I have an ideal of what I want the site to look like, what “needs” to be on it and it is a race against the clock to make it happen. Not to mention the fact that I haven’t gotten to the IRONING in days, and we have most of our wardrobe sitting next to the ironing board - all clean - but wrinkle bomb! Since I have lost so much weight and my body is constantly changing, I never know from day to day what will actually fit - and so like to keep ALL sizes in my closet, cleaned and ready to wear, at ALL times! There are moments that I get supremely frustrated, as I careen madly and exhaustedly toward this deadline, when I just want to stop the merry-go-round, get off, postpone the launch, and just BE the prudent wife of scripture, rather than creating a website about her! Plus we had a ton of laundry that needed washed and dried - I have been working so hard this week, no time! If you are a normal, multi-tasking woman, you will realize that this just ADDS to the height of my ironing pile!

Doing a quick reality check, as soon as he drove off, I decided I could sit and feel abandoned, overwhelmed, insecure and absolutely without ability to finish, incredibly guilty because I have so much to do and I can’t just have a 24 hour girl time with Emily, OR….I can redeem this SHORT husband-free time I have and do everything within my control while he is gone. I can look at it as a bit of vacation, a 24 hour stretch where Emily and I can accomplish a lot!

Emily and I had a conference. I am determined to finish her room, which is all over the upstairs - especially the craft room, and I would like her to wake up in the gorgeous room we have worked so hard at. I want her to wake up for her first morning of school, in a beautiful room. Unsettled business can be so distracting for visual people! We pushed finishing it aside to launch the Pru…but gosh - I want it done! It is absolutely imperative that I must have a first edit on those articles, and establish metadata so folks can find them on the web….. but how to do BOTH. In my prayer time that morning, and the night before, I knew the Lord wanted me to edit the articles. It was obedience. A quick - Lord help me redeem my time - and suddenly it all made sense. Work diligently ALL DAY long on BOTH projects. I can start Emily on seams, run in to the office 2 steps away and edit a few articles, advise her, edit a few, let her have a break, I will edit, etc. For 14 hours yesterday - we ran this relay. Final result - a finished comforter/duvet cover, a completed dust ruffle, and now her bed is totally done! We measured and discussed and came up with the best way to use the two pieces of the same fabric, for her curtains. We came up with a plan to finish her room - adding some of my things to her walls. We worked on the curtains FOR HOURS, until about 10. She wanted to further redeem the time by listening to John Maxwell’s Maximum Impact Club CD’s on leadership - since she wants a dozen children - she wants to be clear on leadership principles to lead her team! We listened to 3 CD’s. I edited 67 articles and rewrote a few. We created three healthy meals out of “nothing to eat.”

I even managed to squeeze a mini-retreat in for myself at the end of the day, by grabbing a stack of books to peruse on women, and choosing to read a book by Anne Ortlund for 1/2 an hour before bed. I always hate to sleep without Dave, so I put the stack of books on his side, and then I could pretend it was him. I prayed alone, really missing praying with him at night, as is our habit, and went to sleep quite well (which is a miracle for me).

And so was our extraordinarily productive day! It was amazing to see what the Lord accomplished, in us and through us, as we put our fears and need for perfection aside, and just stuck to the task! We easily did the work of 2 Saturdays!

Sin and Pride -

Other sins find their vent in the accomplishment of evil deeds,

How true this is, pride lies in wait for good deeds, to destroy them. Make them filthy rags. Lord, give us humble hearts.
