Bright Lights Conference for Young Ladies ~ Strong in the Lord ~ Aug 4 & 5, 2009

Would you be interested in a weekend conference for young ladies in your church, Christian school, or homeschool group? This conference is taught by Sarah Mally and a group of the older Bright Lights leaders from Cedar Rapids. Through practical sessions, powerful testimonies, insightful skits, valuable small group time, and godly role-models, this conference is designed to challenge girls to seek the Lord with all their hearts and use the years of their youth for the Lord.

The first Strong in the Lord Conference was held May 4th-5th, 2001 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The primary reason I (Sarah) planned this conference was to give my 20 older Bright Lights girls practical training in ministry to younger girls. We prayed for many girls to come to this conference, but when 160 girls registered, this greatly exceeded our expectations. We were thrilled to see how the Lord worked in girls’ lives, and we began to pray for other opportunities to present this conference. Since that first conference the Lord has continued to open doors to reach young ladies. We’ve held 30 Strong in the Lord conferences and Radiant Purity conferences for thousands of mothers and daughters across the nation and in other countries. To see a schedule of upcoming conferences click here.

Our purpose in this conference is:

* To encourage young ladies to seek the Lord with all their heart.
* To prepare young ladies to be strong in the Lord all the way through their teenage years and avoid the traps that many teens fall into.
* To provide these girls with the friendship, fellowship, and godly influence of older young ladies.

Bright Lights Conference for Young Ladies ~ Radiant Purity Aug 7 & 8 in Bristol VA

For mothers and daughters ages 12-24

A young lady who is pure shines with a radiant brightness in this world of darkness. How can a girl stay physically and emotionally pure as she waits for God’s best in marriage?

The Radiant Purity conference will encourage young ladies to guard their hearts and minds, to desire the very best marriage, to give their hearts to their father, to avoid the dangers of the world’s thinking, to delight in Jesus, and to use their years of singleness for the Lord.

Creatively presented through stories and testimonies, practical instruction, skits, and real-life examples, this conference gives Biblical answers to every day questions and deep life struggles. It also deals with many practical topics such as modesty and how to guard your heart when you have a crush. The material is discreet and appropriate for 12 year olds and yet relevant to all ages. Also includes testimonies from young ladies who serve as Bright Lights staff, chalk drawings, and harp music.

Just call me Jesus

“The Word became flesh,” John said … He was touchable,
approachable, reachable. And, what’s more, he was ordinary. If
he were here today you probably wouldn’t notice him as he walked
through a shopping mall. He wouldn’t turn heads by the clothes
he wore or the jewelry he flashed. “Just call me Jesus,” you can
almost hear him say.

This has hung on my wall for YEARS….

God has promised forgiveness to your repentance, but He has not promised tomorrow to your procrastination.

Tertullian ~ We worship God through Christ!

Filed under :Quote of the Day, Biblical Gleanings

We say, and we say openly, and while ye torture us, mangled and
gory we cry out, “We worship God through Christ!” Believe Him a
man: it is through Him and in Him that God willeth Himself to be
known and worshipped.

– Tertullian

We worship God through Christ indeed! For more on Tertullian, the first Christian writer in Latin, who lived in Carthage around 200 AD, see http://www.tertullian.org/readfirst.htm

Musings on the art of prudent and biblical prosperity

Filed under :Saving Money, Biblical Gleanings, The Prudent Wife

Today, as I read through 1 Samuel, I came across a verse that our Pastor had preached on a few weeks ago. Pastor Arden is doing a phenomenal series on revival, for which we all should be praying for, and he is breaking our hearts and minds through this series. He has been preaching through parts of Samuel, Kings, and is now in Chronicles, with references all over the Bible. One of the things he said a few weeks ago caught my mind again today, about David, when he was first leading men into battle under Saul, prospering and acting prudently. I scribbled (in archival quality - photo safe pen) “acting wisely” over the word prospering in 1 Samuel 18:14, “And David was prospering in all his ways for th Lord was with him.” It jumped out at me again today. Earlier, in verse 5, it said “So David went out wherever Saul sent him, and he prospered; and Saul set him over the men of war. And it was pleasing in the sight of all the people and also in the sight of Saul’s servants.”

Our little spoiled American eyeballs read the word prospered one way. Oh to be prosperous! What image does the word prosper bring up in your mind? Is it an image of wealth, money, purchasing power, financial clout, success? Is it material, as in a big house, elegant car, great stock portfolio, designer lifestyle, and a garage full of toys? Is it personal and reeks of designer clothing, Hermes bag, the right shoes, sunglasses and trendy designer clothes, manicured hands and pedicured feet, expensive highlights and hair, body from the yoga shop? Is it a bass fishing boat filled with hooks and lures or a full craft room burgeoning with supplies? Is it the best tickets at sporting events with fabulous seats, or is it exotic vacations all over the world? We all have our definition of prosperous, created over the years, in our own personal experience and pleasures.

But is OUR definition God’s definition? Is it possible that the Hebrew can shed a richer light on the original meaning of the word, and we are missing much in a simple read through, with our modern mind and our modern values attached?

The word prosperous in both of those verses is from the Hebrew word sakal (7919) and is defined as a verb meaning to act with insight, to be prudent, to give insight, to teach, to prosper, to consider, to ponder, to understand, to act prudently, to act with devotion. The primary meaning of the word is to BE PRUDENT.

Aha, the primary meaning of the word prosper is to BE PRUDENT.

In Joshua 1:8, prosperous pops up, “This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to ALL that is written in it; for THEN you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.” If - then. I love if-then because I can be so dull. If I do something, then God says what will happen. Clear. Simple. If you meditate on the Law day and night, and do ALL written in the law, THEN you will make your way prosperous and have success. If - then. The word prosperous in this passage is a more modern prosperous, coming from the Hebrew word Salah (6743) a verb meaning to prosper, to succeed, to be victorious, to turn out successfully, the sense of succeeding in an endeavor

How different our lives would be if we were biblically prosperous, acting with insight, pondering, understanding, teaching and acting with devotion, as we heeded the if-then, meditating on the book of the law night and day, not turning to the right or to the left of it.

What a delight the prudent journey will be, as we learn the art of prudence and what biblical prosperity, and acting wisely mean.
